Claridge House, run by the Friends Fellowship of Healing, provides a sanctuary to anyone who is seeking a few days’ rest, renewal or healing. It is situated in the small Surrey village of Dormansland and stands in about two acres of gardens and trees.
The emphasis being on spirituality, not religion, people from any path are able to benefit from the peaceful and understanding atmosphere. And they have the opportunity of enjoying the home-cooked vegetarian or vegan food.
Visitors can stay for a midweek one-day individual or led retreat or a midweek two-or-more-day relaxing break or a course involving activities such arts & crafts, yoga & tai chi, mindfulness & meditation, singing & dancing and healing. Claridge House also accommodates groups such as Quaker Local or Area Meetings, or approved non-Quaker gatherings.
“I’ve just spent a nice restful day at Claridge House. The welcome was very hospitable and lunch was excellent: home-made spinach soup and one of the best vegetarian lasagnes I’ve tasted, with an appetising selection of salads, including melon and roasted seeds. I toured the garden with my brolly as shelter from the rain. The vibrant colours of the yellow loosestrife and a plant with intense violetish flowers (whose name I’ve forgotten) were juxtaposed and held my attention. I am looking forwards to attend one or two of the led one-day retreats in the autumn, which costs little more than the day I spent there.”
